Section 44 sees Vernon suffer some more
“With blurred vision Vernon glanced again at the lesson plan in his hand. Arthur, the Patron Saint of Lost Causes, seemed to be championing the rights of a meat dish.
‘A quick test of the assertion that ‘enjoyment outweighs pain in this world’, or that they are at any rate balanced, would be to compare the feelings of an animal engaged in eating another, with those of the animal being eaten.’
Feeling like a meat dish himself Vernon stirred the murky intellectual soup that was his lower set Ethics class and tried to get them to see that assumptions about whether the world is mostly good or mostly bad depends on who is making the judgement.”
